Ombudsman: a plea

APPOINTMENT of the federal ombudsman was made in 1983 to diagnose, investigate, redress and rectify any injustice done to a person through maladministration, especially government servants, to redress their grievances in a fair and transparent manner.

I had approached the federal ombudsman in October 2014 about non-payment of my dues for 10 months from September 2013 to June 2014. The case was heard on Nov 7, 2014, and the decision was passed on Dec 18, and communicated to the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), ordering payments amounting to Rs172,800. I got retired from government service on July 12, 2014, on attaining the age of superannuation. Despite my repeated telephone calls and personnel visits to the offices of the federal ombudsman and FDE, the orders in my case are not being implemented by the FDE.

I feel embarrassed that the office of the federal ombudsman is unable to implement its orders. It is now more than three months but still no action has been taken on the findings/recommendations in the case for implementation of the orders to date.

In my case, the order vide letter No. HQR/06822/14 from Imtiaz Inayat Ellahi, senior adviser, was forwarded to the Federal Directorate of Education. But, strangely, the FDE authorities have not been able to get orders implemented by the principal of the college.

I request the relevant authorities, as well as the federal ombudsman, to intervene in the matter.
