Detention extended

LAHORE: A provincial review board comprising judges of the Lahore High Court on Saturday extended detention of Usman Ishaq, son of a Malik Ishaq, a leader of a banned outfit, and his associate Haq Nawaz for further 90 days.

Punjab home department officials produced the detainees before the three-member board in strict security. Justice Mamoonur Rasheed headed the board.

A law officer of the department told the board members that both Usman Ishaq and Haq Nawaz were involved in spreading hate, extremism and sectarianism. He said the detainees were listed in “Fourth Schedule” as proscribed persons owing to their activities.

On behalf of the detainees, Advocate Syed Mudassar Gilani said his clients were detained on political grounds. He said the government did not have any cogent evidence against them.

After hearing both sides, the Review Board extended their detention for 90 days.
