Kohat’s rural areas face prolonged power outages

KOHAT: The Pesco is frequently resorting to unannounced loadshedding across the Kohat district with the advent of the hot weather to the miseries of the consumers.

In rural areas, loadshedding duration is 22 hours a day, whereas in urban areas, especially in posh KDA town, people suffer 18 hours of power outages, creating severe water shortage.

A resident of Muhammadzai rural area told Dawn that 22 hours long outages had made their lives miserable.

Meanwhile, the dwellers of KDA Town gathered at Gate No 3 of the locality after Friday prayers and chanted slogans against the Pesco for excessive loadshedding.

They complained that they had to purchase water as water supply schemes had been rendered dysfunctional due to long power cuts.

In the city areas, residents said they experienced long power cuts and low voltage. They added that they had to purchase stabilisers at exorbitant rates for improving voltage.

When contacted, Pesco SDO, Wajidullah, said that the loadshedding had been carried out from Peshawar, and that the local Pesco staff had not been given loadshedding schedule.
