SAHIWAL: Six murder convicts, including two brothers, will be hanged at the Central Jail, Sahiwal, on April 21, 22 and 23.

Jail Superintendent Gulzar Butt said the jail administration had received death warrants for the convicts from their respective district and sessions judges.

Those whose execution warrants have been received are Muhammad Hanif and Shafqat Ali (brothers), Liaqat Iqbal, Iftikhar Ahmed, Zahid Husain and Hanif.

Liaqat Iqbal has been convicted for killing his maternal uncle, Bilal, over a land dispute in 1998.

Qaboola police had registered a case and the Pakpattan district and sessions judge issued death warrants for him.

Iftikhar Ahmed had killed a woman in 2000 and the case was registered with City Police, Chichawatni.

Both the convicts will be hanged on April 21.

Muhammad Hanif and Shafqat Ali had killed two people, Ashraf and Gulzar, over a land dispute in 1990. The case against them was registered with Dera Rahim police station and they would be hanged on April 22.

Zahid, a resident of Mohalla Gharibabad, Chichawatni, had murdered Constable Fida Husain in 2001. He was trialed under the Anti-Terrorism Act and would be hanged on April 22.

Hanif had killed ASI Ihsanullah during a raid at Chak 27-D, Depalpur, in 2006. He was also trialed under the ATA and would be hanged on April 23.

FOUND DEAD: A missing girl was found dead in her village, Chak 17-KB, Qaboola, Pakpattan.

Fourteen-year-old Jawae’s father Zahoor Ahmed had reported to the police on April 14 that his daughter along cash and jewellery worth Rs70,000 was missing from his house. Both police and Jawae’s family searched for her for two days. On Thursday, her body was found in a field in the village.

Qaboola police sent the body to DHQ Hospital, Pakpattan, for autopsy and registered an FIR on the complaint of girl’s mother Jatti Bibi.

ROADS: Twenty-two rural roads will be constructed at a cost of Rs1.36bn in Sahiwal division under Khadim-i-Punjab Dehi Road Programme.

The roads will be constructed in districts of Okara, Sahiwal and Pakpattan and 17 of them are having the length of less than 5km.

Habib Jilani Vance, director development, said seven roads would be constructed in Okara, nine in Sahiwal and six in Pakpattan.

Commissioner Sohail Shahzad has directed both highway department officials and district coordination officers of the three districts to ensure quality of work in all the road projects.
