Man wounded in attack on policeman

MIRPURKHAS: A man received gunshot wounds and a police constable escaped death when a group of armed men resorted to firing during a brawl with the policeman in the Napier area of Mirpurkhas late on Thursday evening.

According to the officials at the Town police station, constable Waseem of the ‘Madadgar 15’ came across a group of men who engaged him in a heated argument over some matter and then opened fire. However, a bullet missed the constable though he received injuries during the ensuring brawl. One of the armed men, later identified as Atif, also sustained bullet wounds, they said.

Constable Waseem and Atif were taken to the Mirpurkhas Civil Hospital where the policeman was provided treatment. Atif was referred to a Hyderabad hospital due to his serious condition.

The constable said he was hit with rifle butt by the attackers.
