‘Illiterate literates’

RECENTLY I watched at one of the TV channels news about the beginning of board examinations. It was indeed very shocking to see candidates engaged in ‘free for all cheating’.

TV cameras showed students with books, phones, iPads, etc., and invigilators not taking any notice. Watching this news, I kept wondering as to where are we headed. Our educational standards are already in dismal state.

In my working life I have seen graduates and post-graduates unable to write or speak properly and even those with qualification in mathematics are unable to do simple calculations.

With this state of affairs continuing every year, we will have fairly large population of ‘illiterate literates’.

I hope our education authorities, schools and parents will jointly put all efforts to ensure that we see better educated manpower in near future.
