Hailstones take people by surprise

LAHORE: Some parts of the city received light rain and hailstones on Sunday evening which provided relief to people against the hot weather earlier in the day.

Patches of clouds continued to hang over the city during the day but the maximum 34.5 degrees C temperature was enough to remind people of harsh summer days ahead. Small groups of youngsters reached the canal for their first dip in cool water this summer.

Dark clouds appeared in the evening, giving showers over southern parts of the city. Rain was accompanied by hailstones, cooling down temperature elsewhere in the city.

The Met office said some other cities also received light rain because of a low pressure over western parts of the country. It forecast partly cloudy weather with chances of dust thunderstorm and a few drops of rain in the city in the next 24 hours.

It will remain mainly hot and dry with chances of isolated dust-raising winds in plain areas over most parts of the country.

Thunderstorm/rain would occur at a few places of Kurram Agency, Quetta, Zhob, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi (including Islamabad), Malakand, Hazara divisions, Gilgit Baltistan and Kashmir.

Furthermore, chances of hailstorm in weather activity areas could not be excluded.
