Schools’ heads get more powers to improve performance

TIMERGARA: Provincial finance minister Muzaffar Sayed has said that the government is committed to facilitating educational institutions and their heads in order to improve their performance.

He was addressing a function attended by the heads of high and higher secondary schools at Education Complex, Balambat, on Saturday.

Mr Sayed said the government would empower the heads of government schools in order to achieve desired results.

He said the prime duty of teachers was to build students’ character to make them good citizens. “If we are sincere to enhance standard of education we must give due respect to our teachers,” he said, adding that more facilities and privileges would be announced for teachers in the next fiscal budget.

The minister said that state, society, parents and teachers all had the collective responsibility to bring out-of-school children to schools in order to get 100 per cent literacy rate.

Chairman district development advisory committee Saeed Gul, district education officer Dr Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim, district officer Mohammad Riaz, district president of senior staff association Humayun Khan, assistant district officer Ali Haidar and others also spoke on the occasion.

Muzafar Sayed and Saeed Gul also distributed laptops and printers among principals and headmasters of government high and higher secondary schools and motorcycles among 13 ADOs of the district.

Earlier, DEO Hafiz Ibrahim pointed out that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had released Rs90 million for construction of boundary walls of 230 schools, Rs25 million for purchasing furniture, Rs16.62 million for purchase of motorcycles for education officers, Rs9.7 million for computers along with accessories to 100 schools, and Rs100,000 each for sports’ fund for 59 schools. Besides, he said Rs140 million special fund had been provided to schools in Lower Dir.

The DEO said that establishment of independent monitoring unit and installation of biometric system at education offices had improved staff attendance.

Meanwhile, the provincial finance minister, DDAC chairman and the DEO launched enrolment campaign by admitting several children to schools in the district. The newly admitted students were also provided schoolbags and books.

A function in this regard was jointly organised by the National Commission for Human Developm-ent and education department at Balambat. Speaking on the occasion, the minister urged teachers and heads of schools to make the campaign a success.
