Suspects held during SU campus unrest released

LARKANA: The official in charge of the Sindh University’s Larkana campus, Bisharat Abbasi, and two private security guards arrested for harassing pretesting students on Thursday were released on personal bond on Saturday.

They, along with several other suspects, including the brother of Mr Abbasi, were booked in two FIRs lodged by some students and journalists for brandishing firearms and firing into the air to scare them away during the protest over a lack of due facilities on the campus.

Officials at the Waleed police station, who were to produce the suspects in court for obtaining their remand in the morning, said all the suspects were released on personal bond under a compromise between the rival sides.

While an inquiry team constituted by the SU vice chancellor continued its work, the police said the suspects would be produced in court on Monday to record statements of witnesses.
