4 killed, 16 injured on motorway

CHAKWAL: Four people were killed and 16 others injured when a van hit a trailer near Khandoa village on M2 motorway on Tuesday.

According to police and Rescue 1122 sources, a van was heading to Sargodha from Chakwal.

When it was passing by booth No 35 on the motorway, the driver lost control and smashed into a trailer, killing four passengers.

The deceased were identified as Ahmed Saeed, a resident of Sargodha district; Khizar Hayat, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin district; Ghulam Fatima, a resident of Sadwal village of Chakwal, and Maqsooda Rani, a resident of Chawli village of Chakwal.

“We received 16 injured people. Seven were referred to Rawalpindi due to their serious condition while others were discharged,” Dr Ishtiaq, the focal person of DHQ Hospital Chakwal, told Dawn. He added that the bodies of four people were handed over to their relatives.

Talking to Dawn, Investigation Officer Khawar Saeed at Kallar Kahar Police Station said that the accident occurred due to negligence of the van’s driver.

“We have registered a case against him,” he added.
