100,000 Yemenis have left their homes: Unicef

UNITED NATIONS: More than 100,000 people have left their homes in search of safety in Yemen since the escalation in fighting last month and 74 children have lost their lives, according to UNICEF, the UN agency for child welfare.

Hospitals are struggling to treat large numbers of wounded with insufficient supplies and some medical facilities have come under attack, the agency said.

Another UN agency, the World Health Organisation (WHO), released its findings about the human toll of the crisis on Monday.

The WHO estimates that 540 people have been killed and some 1,700 others wounded in Yemen since March 19.

In a press release issued here on Monday, the WHO deplored the death of healthcare workers and damage to health facilities across the country.
