TIMERGARA: The provincial government has released Rs14 million for purchase of furniture for state-run high and higher secondary schools in the Lower Dir district.

This was stated by district education officer Dr Hafiz Mohammad Ibrahim while talking to journalists here on Friday. He said that the elementary and secondary education department had requested the provincial government for provision of funds for purchase of furniture for the schools.

He said that the district purchase committee would inspect samples of different furniture items like chairs, benches, desks and tables which would be displayed by different firms outside the DEO office at Balambat on April 6.

The DEO said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was committed to providing all facilities to schools in order to ensure provision of quality education to students.

The new academic session would start from April 8, he said and added the district education department planned surprise visits to schools in the district to check attendance of teachers and students. He directed the teachers’ community to avoid unnecessary absenteeism and focus on students’ learning.

WOMAN SEEKS JUSTICE: An elderly woman and her husband have sought help of the district administration against land grabbers.

Speaking at a news conference here, the woman, Chaman Dasta, 60, said she was the lone legal heir of her parents, but her first cousins had grabbed all the property and also wanted her to vacate the house she had been living in for the last 24 years.

The woman said she had been dragged to courts in the property case for the last 24 years, stressing her out. She added that now the case was pending with Darul Qaza, Swat.

The woman said her house was in dilapidated condition as her cousins didn’t allow her to carry out its repair. She said the district administration would be responsible if her house got collapsed and human lives were lost.
