RAWALPINDI: Defending champion Sachika Ingale of India, Siyoli Waters, Pakistani star Maria Toorpakai Wazir and other seeded players moved into the quarter- final in the second Bahria Town International Women Squash Championship here at Safari Bahria Town Squash Courts on Wednesday.

Defending champion Sachika defeated Linda Hruzikova of Slovakia 3-2 in a tough match lasting 51 mintues. She lost the first game 8-11, but made a strong comeback and easily won the second game 11-5.

But in the third set, Linda came up with a befitting reply, winning it 7-11. Both the girls played aggressive game giving each other tough time. In the fourth game, the defending champion again faced strong resistance. However, she managed to win the game 12-10 and in the last game she overcame her opponent 11-8.

Pakistan’s Maria defeated Vanessa Chu in a four-game clash that lasted 14 minutes.

In the first game, both players gave tough time to each others. Maria won the game 12-10, and repeated the same result in the second game.

However, in the third game, Chu made a good comeback to claim it 11-8. However, in the last game, the experienced Pakistani player outclassed Chu 11-9 to win the match.

Apart from Maria two other Pakistani players, Sadia Gul and Muqaddas Ashraf, also played the main draw on Wednesday but they could not make the quarter-finals.

Hongkong’s Liu Tsz-Ling took only 16 minutes to qualify for the last eight defeating Sadia Gul 11-4, 11-5, 11-4. Egypt’s Nadine Shahhin in a one-sided match beat Muqaddas in straight games (11-4, 11-4, 11-5) that lasted only 17 minutes.

Earlier, top seed of the tournament Siyoli Waters of South Africa outclassed Zulhijjah Binti Azan of Malaysia 3-0 in only 18 minutes.

While, Farah Abdel Meguid of Egypt overpowered Carmen Lee of Hong Kong 3-1 in 25 minutes, winning the first game 11-7, second 11-4 but lost the third game 5-11 before winning the fourth 11-5.

Rachel Arnold of Malaysia beat Egypt’s Amina Yousry 3-1 in 25 minutes while Teh Min Jie Malaysia upset fourth seed Cheyna Tucker of South Africa in straight games that lasted only 28 minutes.
