Court for removal of hurdles in completion of road project

QUETTA: A division bench of Balochistan High Court has asked the station commander/president of the Cantonment Board Quetta (CBQ) to remove hurdles causing delay in the completion of the city airport road project.

The bench comprising Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel and Justice Mohammad Ejaz Swati was hearing a petition filed by Talat Waheed Khan on Monday.

The court directed general managers of National Highways Authority (NHA) and Pakistan Telecom­mu­nication Corporation Limited (PTCL) to resolve issues with officials concerned and submit a progress report in the court in the next hearing to be held on April 4.

A NHA official informed the court that there were hurdles in the way of the project because of the installations of PTCL. He said work on the project was stopped by CBQ officials on the basis that the expansion of the road covering an area which belongs to the army.

He said an official of the GHQ would visit Quetta this week to discuss the project.

Advocates Kamran Murtaza, Hadi Shakeel Ahmed, Rab Nawaz and Iqbal Shah represented organisations concerned. Officials of CBQ, NHA, PTCL and Quetta Electric Supply Company, Communication and Works department (C&W) Balochistan and NESPAK Karachi were present in the court.
