MANSEHRA: The PPP has sought applications from workers for local government elections to be held in the district on May 30 this year.

The last date to apply for party ticket is April 4.

On Monday, the party’s local chapter met here, where PPP president for Hazara division Shuja Salim Khan, district president Malik Farooq and other leaders were in attendance.

The participants decided to receive applications from party candidates for the district and tehsil councils.

“We are part of three-party alliance and will ensure that both tehsil and district councils are held by the alliance in the elections. The next nazims/chairmen of district and tehsil councils will also be from our alliance,” Shuja said on the occasion.

He said the JUI-F and ANP were the PPP allies and the alliance would field winnable candidates in elections.

The PPP leader said the alliance would meet on April 9 to finalise candidates for the next local body elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Farooq said PPP was party of the people and would win the maximum seats in local government elections in the district.

He said activists would follow the party instructions for the success of the three-party alliance in the district.

“I’m optimistic that the PPP partners will show solidarity for the success of the alliance candidates in the elections,” he said.

CHAIRLIFT BREAKS: Four students and a teacher were injured when a chairlift they were using to go home from school broke in Kotgalla area in Batagram on Monday.

The injured, including students Mohammad Khalil, 13, Attaur Rehman, 11, Islamullah, 12, and Mohammad Anis, 12, and teacher Ali Khan, were taken to the Civil Hospital Batagram.

INFLATED ELECTRICITY BILLS: The Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has issued inflated bills to people in Tanawal area of the district.

A group of people led by Mohammad Akram of Matsarian area of Tanawal visited the Mansehra Press Club and told reporters here that Pesco officials and meter readers were not going to check meter readings and sending them utility bills sitting in their offices.

He said the relevant Pesco officials threatened the people with suspension of electric supply when the latter contacted them for rectification of problem.

Akram said most people of Matsarian were very poor, so they were unable to pay inflated bills.

He warned local residents would block the Karakoram Highway if the matter was not resolved without delay.
