Taliban claim responsibility for killing army officer

PESHAWAR / MANSEHRA: The banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility on Monday for the killing of Lt Col Tahir Azeem who was gunned down in Hayatabad on Sunday.

Two men on a motorbike attacked Lt Col Azeem in Abaseen Market when he was going home from a mosque in Hayatabad Phase 3.

The responsibility was claimed in a statement issued to the media by Taliban spokesman Mohammad Khorasani.

Meanwhile, a Frontier Constabulary official was killed and his son critically injured when armed men attacked their home in Oghi area of Mansehra district early on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Abdul Rasheed, a head clerk in the FC, and his son as Manan.

Police handed over the body to the family after autopsy in the Oghi Civil Hospital, while Manan was taken to the Ayub Medical Complex in Abbottabad.

ACCIDENT: Four students and a teacher were injured when a chairlift they were riding in broke down in Kotgalla area in Battagram.

The boys were 11 to 13 years old.
