12-year-old girl burnt to death after gang-rape

SUKKUR: On court directives, police have registered a case against three suspects on a woman’s complaint that she, as well as her 12-year-old daughter, were gang-raped almost a month ago in a village. The girl later died after being set on fire by the rapists, the woman said.

However, no arrest has been made yet.

The woman told journalists at Daharki Press Club on Sunday that she and her daughter were raped and then set on fire by three men in Menhoon Mahar, a village in Ghotki district.

“We used to visit villages to sell traditional Sindhi quilt, Rillhi. Twenty-eight days ago, we had to stay in the house of Noor Hassan, Hashim Mochi and Gulshan Mochi because of inclement weather,” the woman said.

She alleged that they were given tea apparently laced with a sedative substance. After drinking it, she and her daughter lost their senses and were subjected to sexual assault, to be set on fire later.

The woman said that she fell unconscious and later found herself in the Shaikh Zaid Hospital in Rahimyar Khan. When she asked about her daughter, she was told by her son that she had died of burn wounds.

The District and Sessions Judge of Ghotki, Mehboob Aly Jawahari, took suo motu notice of the incident and directed police to register an FIR.

The SSP of Ghotki said a case had been registered against Noor Hassan, Hashim Mochi and Gulshan Mochi.
