Death row prisoner’s execution stayed

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday stayed execution of a triple murder convict Raees Ahmed after he claimed that he reached a compromise with the victims’ families.

Raees Ahmed, presently languishing in Adiala jail, was scheduled to be hanged on March 27.

IHC division bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Aamir Farooq directed the petitioner to produce the compromise deed before the court by March 30 and stayed the execution.

Raees Ahmed of Bhara Kahu was awarded death sentence by a local court in 1999 for triple murder.

Later he filed appeals against the sentence that were dismissed by the high court and Supreme Court of Pakistan.
