Rs1.6m fine for murder

SUKKUR: A jirga (tribal court) held in Noor Mohammed Jamali village near Tangwani town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district on Thursday imposed a fine of Rs1.6 million on a man, Shahul Jatoi, who was found guilty of firing on a coach that had left a woman passenger dead about six years ago.

The woman, Janul Nandwani, along with some other family members was travelling in the Karachi-bound coach coming from Peshawar. Armed men opened fire on the vehicle when it was passing through the Napar Kot area of Shikarpur district on the Indus Highway. The woman was critically wounded and later died in a hospital.

The attack was blamed on some members of the Jatoi community and the matter was taken to the jirga, presided over by Sanaullah Jatoi and Shah Murad Nandwani, the elders of their respective communities.
