Art show features horses, women and compositions

LAHORE: An exhibition of artworks by Karachi-based artist Mashkoor Raza opened at Ejaz Gallery on Wednesday.

The exhibition also had the launch of Raza’s book titled ‘Mashkoor Raza’s Art Journey’. The book narrates the art journey of the artist.

Mr Raza told Dawn some 50 artworks on display were his fresh works featuring horses, women and compositions.

“I’m into abstract art and my works have been sold out to art buyers not only in Pakistan but also abroad,” he said.

Mr Raza is one of those prominent painters who started their career in the early 80s. He belongs to the ‘cubism’ school of thought introduced by Picasso.

The artist in focus believes that every guest who walks in is the chief guest, so the exhibition was not formally inaugurated by any ‘chief guest’.

The exhibition will remain on till March 31.

RAJA CHANGEZ SULTAN: An exhibition of artworks by Raja Changez Sultan will open at Royaat Art Gallery on Thursday (today).

Mr Sultan’s newest show interweaves the three motifs that are recurring in his work – the Himalayan odyssey, divided self, and the wood nymphs – a tribute to the artist’s deep imaginative prowess. The shimmering mountain and dancing silhouettes lure one into a wondrous alternate dimension or perhaps they simply reflect the images hidden in the mind’s eye.

Sultan scapes emerge from and reflect his own deep connection with the Himalayas – a connection developed through a lifetime deep, meditative study. Sultan’s use of this technique allows him to infuse his images with a luminosity –almost as if there was a light shining within the painting itself.

Mr Sultan is an internationally recognised poet and painter having held over 50 national and international solo exhibitions. He holds a MFA and MSc from the Columbia University, New York, in creative writing and journalism.

His show will be on display at Royaat Gallery from March 26 to April 4.
