Operation against terrorists should continue: Khursheed

SUKKUR: Supporting the military operation, Zarb-i-Azb, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah has said that Taliban are terrorists and causing heavy losses to Pakistan.

Calling for continued military strikes on terrorists across the country, he said the operation in Karachi had also been launched with the consent of all concerned parties. Mr Shah was speaking to PPP workers and later to the media in Rohri on Saturday evening. He said the PPP had always struggled for the restoration of democracy in the country because it believed in the power of people.

He said employment would be given to jobless youths on merit and to ensure implementation of merit, the candidates passing tests through the NTS would be recruited.

He said that Raza Rabbani’s uncontested election as the Senate chairman was not the result of ‘reconciliation’ but of the strategy drawn by PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He said a change within the Sindh Assembly could come without a midterm election.

He suggested that the mandatory period of the assemblies should be reduced to four years from five years, and said this would help prevent rigging.

He said: “We welcome arrest of suspects in the recent raid on the MQM headquarters in Karachi but condemn Rangers’ entry into the house of Altaf Hussain’s sister.” He said action should be taken against a terrorist affiliated with any party.

He said a probe was required to be conducted into the killing of an MQM worker on the day of the raid. He said the operation was being conducted in Karachi on the demand of the MQM. In reply to a question, he said Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan would soon be in the parliament.

MPA Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Sukkur DC Shahzad Fazal Abbasi and SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio and former MPA Dr Nasrullah Baloch accompanied Mr Shah.
