PU student breaks long jump record

LAHORE: Adnan Jahangir of Punjab University’s Teaching Department (PUTD) broke 40-year-old record of long jump on the opening day of the university’s 118th Inter-collegiate athletics at New Campus Ground on Thursday.

Saeed Akhter Tattla of GCU Faisalabad had set 7.07-metre long jump record in 1975 which was broken by Adnan Jahangir, an international athlete completing BS Sport Sciences in the PU, by jumping 7.12 metres.

PUTD’s Farhan Shah clinched second while Umar Farooq of Government College, Jhang, got third positions in long jump.

PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran announced a cash award of Rs20,000 for Adnan Jahangir.

In 15,000 metre race, PUTD’s Musawarur Rehman got first while Majid Ali and Bilal Haider Hanif of Akhwan Science College, Burki, got second and third positions, respectively.

In 5,000 metre race, PUTD’s Musawarur Rehman got first while Majid Ali and Ghulam Husain of Akhwan Science College Burki clinched second and third positions.

In 400 meter race, Muhammad Shafiq of PU Chemical Engineering and Emerging Technology Department clinched first while PUTD’s Muhammad Nasir and Shah Behram got second and third positions, respectively.

In discus throw, Muhammad Yaisr of Akhwan Science College got first, PUTD’s Khuzran Khan second and Ismatullah of Government College Jhang got third positions.

In hammer throw, PUTD’s Muhammad Zahid clinched first and Akhwan Science College Burki’s Sajid Ali and Muhammad Yasir grabbed second and third positions, respectively.

The event would conclude on Friday (today).

GREETED: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran has congratulated the newly-elected office-bearers of Academic Staff Association.

In a message, Dr Kamran expressed hope the newly-elected ASA president Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain and other office-bearers would play their role in promotion of research and politics of principles in the university.
