Armyman found dead near Hamza Camp

ISLAMABAD: An armyman performing security duty at Hamza Camp was found dead near the sensitive agency’s installation on Wednesday, police said.

The incident came to light when some passers-by informed the police that an abandoned body was lying in an open area between the camp and Madressah Faizul Islam.

Due to jurisdiction issue, the Rawalpindi and Islamabad police refused to come to the site to shift the body to hospital.

However, officials of the army took the body away, police said. Later they handed over the body to capital police who shifted it to the capital hospital for legal process.

The victim was identified as Abrar Farid, an army personnel who was on security duty at the camp.

The police said he was last seen on Tuesday, when he left Hamza Camp. He was later found dead near the army installation.

An autopsy on the body revealed an injury to the back of his head, they said, adding that no other mark of injury was found on the body. The autopsy, however, failed to establish the actual cause of his death, they said.

His blood sample and tissues from heart, kidney, lungs, brain, liver, spleen and contents from stomach have been sent for chemical examination to establish the actual cause of death, they added.

After the autopsy the body was handed over to the family for funeral.

Replying to a question, the police said neither the victim’s family nor the army official approached the police for registration of a complaint.
