Ejaz wants Rangers to complete Karachi operation

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry has said the Rangers’ operation against criminals in Karachi must reach its logical end and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Husain should be brought to Pakistan through Interpol and tried in local courts.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Mr Chaudhry said the MQM’s “real face” had been exposed with the recovery of a large number of weapons and criminals’ arrests from party headquarters Nine Zero in Karachi.

He demanded that militant wings of all political parties must be disbanded and the killing of innocent people in Karachi must stop now.

Meanwhile, the PTI Punjab chief has called a meeting of local bodies committee at provincial secretariat of the party on Thursday (today). It will review the party’s preparations for the September 20 local body elections.

OPPOSITION LEADER: Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, has said political appointments have made police ruthless in victimising and torturing people.

Talking to media persons here on Wednesday, he said criminal activities against women and children were increasing and demanded the Punjab rulers should explain was it the “good governance” they claimed to have in the province.

Mr Rasheed said despite PML-N government’s repeated claims that it would end “thana culture” and give police a pro-people face, Punjab had become a police state.

He said superior courts had also been expressing dissatisfaction with the police performance.

“Neither the government is taking notice of the situation, nor police are reforming themselves,” he deplored.
