Disaster management to be taught in varsities

ISLAMABAD: Higher Education Commission (HEC) would soon introduce curriculum of disaster management for the first time in different public and private universities across the country.

According to an official source, it was first time developed by the HEC National Curriculum Revision Committee forum in 2014.

The curriculum is under process of printing at the HEC and will be circulated to all public and private sector universities or degree awarding institutes through notification for adoption and implementation after approval of their statuary bodies accordingly.

The HEC periodically develops and reviews the curricula for undergraduate and graduate levels for universities or degree awarding institutions of Pakistan.

Besides this, the University of Peshawar (UoP), is also offering BS and Masters in disaster management.

UoP is planning to start M.Phil and Ph.D in disaster management and offering the admissions.

National University of Science and Technology (Nust), Risalpur is also offering master of science (MS) in disaster management.

The NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi is offering masters in earthquake engineering.

Furthermore, disaster management is being taught as a subject in various degree programmes.
