Staff, furniture demanded for Karak girls’ school

KARAK: The elders of Dela Mela have demanded staff and furniture for the girls’ high school in the area.

Bismillah Jan, Arifullah and Sardar Ghani told reporters here that the school was upgraded to the high level during the last ANP-led government and even its building was put up two years ago but staff and furniture had yet to be provided to it.

They said local girls either abandoned education after passing middle class examinations or moved to other areas for further education.

The elders said most people were so poor that they could not afford to pay for their children’s education in other areas.

They said the current educational session was about to end and demanded of the government to provide staff and furniture to the newly-built girls high school so that female students of the area could get higher education on their doorsteps.

The elders threatened if the government did not met their demand, they would agitate.

WATER SHORTAGE: The local elders and political leaders of Teri have complained about the shortage of drinking water in the area and demanded early completion of work on a local water supply scheme.

Anar Gul, Haji Ajab Khan, Maulana Mirzali Khan, Hakeemullah and Inayat Kareem told a meeting here that former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul inaugurated a Rs11 million drinking water scheme for the area but the contractor left the project incomplete.

They alleged that the contractors secured all payments with the connivance of the relevant officials without the project’s completion forcing the people to buy clean drinking water.

The elders and political leaders said work on tubewell and water tank had already been completed but the pipeline had yet to be laid.

They said tubewell and water tank were in ruins due to the neglect.

The elders and political leaders complained local MPA was not taking notice of the project as it was initiated by the former lawmaker.

They said the people faced acute shortage of drinking water.

The elders and political leaders complained that they apprised the relevant department of the problem many times but to no avail.

They said the people bought 3,000 gallons drinking water for Rs1500 though it hardly fulfilled the needs of a small family for two weeks.

The elders and political leaders said most people were unable to afford heavy water expenses. — Correspondent
