Met Office forecasts flash floods

ISLAMABAD: The Met Office on Thursday forecast heavy rainfall including flash floods at some places of the country including Islamabad from Saturday night.

A strong cloud formation over Islamabad fizzled off by Thursday evening over Islamabad, and the current wave of clouds already present in the north of the country are expected to clear away by Friday.

Another wave of clouds currently visible over South Caspian Sea are likely to enter parts of Balochistan, Potohar region, KP, Fata, Gilgit Baltistan and on Saturday.

“Another strong westerly system is expected to enter Balochistan Friday night and it will remain prevailed over central and upper parts of the country till Tuesday next week,” the met office said.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that the incoming system could bring heavy rainfall in parts of northeast Balochistan including Quetta, Kalat, Naseerabad, Zhob divisions from Friday night to Sunday.

At the same time isolated heavy falls are also expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal divisions, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, D.I. Khan divisions of KP and Kashmir on Sunday and Monday. The current wet spell has also lowered mercury and the coldest spot in the country was Astore where temperature was -6 degrees C.
