Corruption case for illegal hospital contract

MIANWALI: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has registered a case against two officials of the health department and a medical store owner in an illegal medicine purchase contract.

A complaint moved by Abdul Rehman Khan says the purchase committee of the health department awarded the Raheel Medical Store a Rs4.60 million contract for locally purchased medicines for the Mianwali District Headquarters (DHQ) hospital for 2013-14. The firm had offered rates higher than the market rates and the purchase committee illegally accepted the rates. The Mianwali ACE booked Drug Inspector Muhammad Furqan Qureshi, former DHQ medical superintendent Dr Abdul Sattar and proprietor of Raheel Medical Store Muhammad Nawaz, under Pakistan Penal Code and Prevention of Corruption Act sections.

The purchase committee is presided over by the executive district officer of health but his name is not included in the case.
