ABS doctors ‘no’ to end strike

GUJRAT: Doctors of Aziz Bhatti Shaheed (ABS) Hospital continued their strike for the sixth day against the transfer of their MS, declining to accept the district administration’s appeal to end it.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Liaqat Ali Chattha and District Police Officer (DPO) Rai Ijaz Ahmed on Tuesday tried to persuade the doctors to end the protest during negotiations with the representatives of the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and the Young Doctors Association (YDA) at the hospital.

The DCO while talking to the doctors dispelled the impression of any political interference in transfer of MS Dr Mian Wajid, saying he had paid several visits to the ABS Hospital and issued notices to the MS to improve the performance but in vain and he had to recommend to the health department to transfer him.

He said the new MS, Dr Tahir Basheer, had been posted on merit without any political influence.

The DPO also assured the doctors of providing better security at the hospital.

Both the DCO and the DPO urged the doctors to resume their duty, offering the PMA and YDA representatives that their complaints would be brought into the notice of the provincial authorities. However, the doctors remained adamant to their stance of getting the transfer orders of Dr Wajid cancelled and announced that they would continue their strike till the acceptance of their demand.
