Three arrested in Rs21m fraud case

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested three accused in the case of a Rs21 million fraud while it is trying to recover the misappropriated amount from all the 10 accused, including six bank officials.

FIA cyber crime wing assistant director Jamil Ahmed Khan Mayo told Dawn on Tuesday the agency had so far arrested three officials of a private company, Khurram Shahzad, Muhammad Iqbal and Abdul Rehman, for committing a fraud with a cellular company to the tune of Rs21m.

“Six officials of a bank in Liberty Market are also involved in it. They are on bail and the agency has filed a plea in the court for rejection of their bail,” he added.

Mr Mayo said the private company officials in connivance with the bank officials in Lahore and Karachi continued their activity until the FIA took action against them on its (cellular company) complaint.

Meanwhile, the FIA arrested a counterfeit currency dealer, Waqas Ahmed, from Bund Road and recovered fake currency amounting Rs175,000.
