Rapid response squad set up to ensure peace in Kohat

KOHAT: The district police chief on Tuesday constituted a rapid response squad for keeping a check on illegally staying foreigners and arresting criminals in the district.

DPO Mohammad Sohaib said that the rapid response squad would man exit and entry points of the district round the clock to ensure peace and tranquility in Kohat, according to a press release issued here.

He said that the squad comprised trained policemen, lady police, personnel of bomb disposal squad and secret service and sniffer dogs for detecting drugs and explosives.

SUSPECTED CRIMINAL KILLED: A suspected criminal allegedly involved in several murders was gunned down by his rivals while a policeman was injured on the premises of the local courts here on Tuesday.

Tashfin Ahmed was brought to the court from the prison for hearing in his case, but his rival named Syed Rehman opened fire at him with a pistol. He died while being taken to hospital. Tashfin had allegedly killed four brothers of Rehman and a policeman named Hassan Mahmood in 2007.

A policeman, Mohammad Arshad, who was carrying the high profile criminal also received bullet injuries on his hand and was admitted to KDA hospital.

The police present in the heavily guarded court building arrested Syed Rehman while he was trying to flee the court premises. A murder case was registered against him.

PROTEST: Different tribes of Darra Adamkhel on Tuesday protested against the land mafia for allegedly occupying their lands and demanded of the government to take action against the land grabbers.

Speaking to the protesters at the Abbas Chowk on the Indus Highway, the elders, including Malik Abdul Manan, Malik Sajjad and Noor Zaman Afridi, accused the police of being hand in glove with the land mafia. The elders appealed to the IGP and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to retrieve their lands from the land mafia.
