Restoration of sacked levies force men demanded

PESHAWAR: The Pasban and JUI-F on Monday demanded the immediate reinstatement of the sacked levies force personnel in Chitral district.

They also demanded probe into the matter for the punishment of the culpable officials.

Provincial Pasban chairman Jamil Warsak and JUI-F district information secretary Abdul Waheed told reporters at the Peshawar Press Club that they were concerned about the sacking of the levies force personnel as all that happened to accommodate influential persons on vacant posts.

They said the administration applied military rules to the levies force personnel and retired them in 2012 but they were reinstated on the orders of the Swat Darul Qaza.

Jamil Warsak said the levies force personnel were reinstated but the relevant deputy commissioner and home department officials sacked them again before giving promotion to influential persons in 2013. He said the deputy commissioner illegally made 34 new appointments as the posts were not advertised in newspapers as required by the rules.

A sacked levies solider, who was also in attendance, said under the regulations, every employee retired after 60 years of age or 25 years of service but 59 employees were sacked to accommodate influential persons in their place. He said such a conduct was an injustice to the levies force personnel.

Support by the Pasban and JUI-F leaders, he demanded the immediate reinstatement of all sacked employees and action against the deputy commissioner over irregularities in the sacking and promotion exercise.

He set a 15-day deadline for the restoration of sacked levies force personnel, who, he said, would observe hunger strike and agitate if the demand was not met. — Bureau Report
