Two JuD activists in jail for wall chalking

RAWALPINDI: Two activists of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) were arrested for wall chalking in Pirwadhai and later convicted by a summery trial court on Saturday.

The police identified the activists as Mohammad Tayyab Rashid and Abdul Rehman, residents of Islamabad. They were arrested for wall chalking under the Pirwadhai Bridge at Nasirabad.

The two men were later produced before the court of a special judge who fined them Rs25,000 each.

But as the convicts could not arrange the money due to the closure of banks, they were sent to the Adiala Jail.

Shaukat Hussain, the police sub-inspector investigating the case, told Dawn that both the convicts would be released after they deposit the amount on Monday.

He said the two activists were caught after they wrote: “Stop occupying our mosques” on the wall of the bridge.

It may be noted that under the National Action Plan, the police have been directed to register cases against anyone found wall chalking and submit their challan to the speedy trial court within two days.
