Afghans record first win; Lanka maul BD

DUNEDIN: The Afghan cricket team brought joy to its fans when it beat Scotland by one wicket with three balls remaining on Thursday to claim its first win.

Samuillah Shenwari scor­ed 96 to take Afghanis­tan to the threshold of victory as it chased Scotland’s 210.

In Melbourne, Tillaka­ratne Dilshan hit an unbeaten century and claimed two wickets as Sri Lanka finally looked like a World Cup contender with a 92-run victory over Bangladesh. Kumar Sangakkara mar­ked his 400th ODI with a quick-fire 105 not out.
