Railway track blown up in Balochistan's Jaffarabad‏

QUETTA: Militants on Saturday blew up a railway track in Balochistan's troubled Jaffarabad district.

The Nawab Bugti Express, a passenger train on the track, narrowly escaped the blast, although three bogies were damaged.

The track was blown up close to Dera Allah Yar, the headquarter of Jaffarabad district.

Police sources told Dawn that militants had planted more than 15 kgs of explosive material close to the railway track.

"When the passenger train approached the site there was a large blast," police said.

The blast damaged a five-foot portion of the track, which resulted in the train service being suspended between Balochistan and other parts of the country.

However, service was restored in the evening after the damaged portion of the track was repaired.

Militants in Balochistan have intensified their attacks in Naseerabad, Jaffarabad and some districts of Mekran belt in the recent past.
