Usman’s gold keeps Lahore on top at Inter-Board Games

ISLAMABAD: Mohammad Usman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Lahore added another gold for his team in the Inter-Board Games here at the Pakistan Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Around 1,100 young athletes of different educational institutions from across the country are participating in five disciplines — teakwondo, athletics, hockey, volleyball and badminton — at the Games.

Usman won the gold in teakwondo (51kg category). So far, Lahore in various competitions at the Games has won eight medals, including three golds, followed by Faisalabad board, whose players have grabbed six medals to date.

In the 51kg taekwondo contest, Usman was followed by Hassan Bilal (silver) of BISE Multan and Ibrar Ali of BISE Dera Ismail Khan (bronze).

In the 55kg taekwondo competition, Mohammad Rizwan of BISE Faisalabad won gold while Mohammad Ali of BISE Abbottabad and Umar Farooq of Gujranwala claimed silver and bronze, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) beat BISE Sargodha while BISE Lahore defeated BISE Peshawar in the semi-finals of the badminton team event.

In the volleyball semi-finals, Bannu blanked Swat 3-0 while the Board of Technical Education outclassed Faisalabad 3-0.

Meanwhile, in hockey BISE Lahore and BISE Bannu won their semi-finals. Naveed’s hat-trick enabled Lahore to crush Multan 6-0 while Bannu overcame Abbottabad 2-1.
