Police party attacked in Naokot

MIRPURKHAS: Two policemen were injured and a police mobile was damaged in a clash between a police party and members of the Tungri community near Nafees Nagar locality of Naokot town on Sunday.

The police party led by Jhuddo DSP Sikandar Qadri had gone to the area at 113 Miles Mori for the arrest of three suspects belonging to the community nominated in a theft case.

A group of people armed with clubs and axes attacked the police party, damaged the mobile van and injured two policemen. One of the attackers also received injuries in the clash.

Reinforcement from Jhuddo and Naokot police stations was sent to the area to assist the police party but the attackers had already managed to escape from the village.

A siege of the village was continuing when last reports came in late in the evening.

The DSP said that police had to fire shots into the air when some of the attackers used guns. However, he added, no one received gunshot wounds.
