Mohmand teachers get arms training

GHALANAI: The political administration on Wednesday started special weapons trainings for male and female teachers in the Mohmand tribal region.

Initially, 12 female and 20 male teachers were given trainings in SMGs, and firearms by the local administration with the help of Pak Army. The training was held at the Governor Model School at Ghalanai.

Political Agent Waqar Ali Khan, Ghalanai Assistant Political Agent Zeeshan Abdullah, principal of the school Syeda Sultana Afridi and teachers were also present on the occasion.

The teachers were trained in how to take over before trying to fire the guns in the event of an attack on the school.

Zahoor Hassan, a senior coordinator of the school, told Dawn that it was an effective training to enable the teachers to tackle an armed attack and to ensure security of teachers and students.

Speaking on the occasion, Waqar Ali Khan said that in the first phase the local administration had started basic weapons training sessions for teachers from Ekkaghound where more than 50 teachers would be trained. He said that the trained teachers would be provided arms.

On the occasion, the college principal, Syeda Sultana said that though teachers’ job was to teach, the APS attack had necessitated such weapons training for teachers to defend themselves in the event of an attack.
