LAKKI MARWAT: The people of Wanda Bagni have complained there exists no girls school in their village on the outskirts of Lakki city.

The village is populated by around 1,000 people.

During a meeting of the village committee chaired by elder Ayaz Khan here on Friday, participants said their area, which was two kilometers from Lakki city, had no school for girls.

Ayaz Khan said villagers were poor men working in the fields of landlords by and large and that they were unable to send daughters to schools in other parts of the tehsil.

He said villagers repeatedly requested local lawmakers to pay heed to female education in the area but to no avail.

A participant said people didn’t send their daughters to boys schools as the act was considered against local norms.

They demanded the establishment of a school in the village for girls.

POWER OUTAGES PROTESTED: The Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl on Friday complained about the excessive power outages in the district saying the suspension of electric supply for long hours has made the people’s life miserable.

The complaint was made during a meeting chaired by JUI-F tehsil chief Maulana Ahmad Shah Qureshi in Lakki city.

The participants unanimously adopted a resolution criticising the Pesco over the unscheduled, prolonged loadshedding in the district.

They said though the people regularly paid power bills but the Pesco subjected them to the excessive loadshedding.

The participants said electric supply remained suspended for 20 hours daily to the misery of the people.

“Instead of cracking down on electricity thieves, Pesco are punishing bill payers in the shape of excessive loadshedding,” a participant said.

The participants urged the authorities to step in and end the prolonged power outages.

They also asked the government to repatriate the internally displaced tribesmen of North Waziristan Agency in a dignified way.
