Afridi the star pick at CPL draft with $150,000

Pakistan's enigmatic all-rounder Shahid Afridi was the star pick at the 2015 Caribbean Premier League draft, fetching $150,000 in Friday's player auction.

The competition's newest team St Kitts and Nevis were the only side to have a pick in the opening round after the other five decided to retain their number one choice from last year. St. Kitts used their pick to sign up 'Boom Boom', who will be retiring from ODI cricket at the end of this year's World Cup but will lead Pakistan in Twenty20s until the 2016 World Championship.

Other international stars Lasith Mailinga (Guyana), Jacques Kallis (Trinidad), Ross Taylor (St Lucia) and Mahela Jayawardena (Jamaica) were picked in the second round along with West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels, who, like Afridi, was picked up by St Kitts and Nevis.

Afridi's international teammates Shoaib Malik with $100,000 (Barbados Tridents), Sohail Tanvir $80,000 (St. Kitts and Nevis) and Kamran Akmal with $30,000 (Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel) were also picked in the draft.
