Boy recovered, two kidnappers arrested

PESHAWAR: Police on Sunday recovered a four-year-old boy and arrested two alleged kidnappers during a raid at a house in Yousufabad area in the limits of Faqirbad police station here on Sunday.

ASP Furqan Bilal told mediapersons at the Faqirabad police station that one Rehmatullah alias Ahmadzai had got a case registered with Paharipora police on Dec 16, 2014, that unidentified armed men had broken into his house and kidnapped his son, Sohail. The kidnappers, had later demanded Rs20 million from him as ransom for release of his son.

However, the police official said the personnel of counterterrorism department conducted raids at different areas and succeeded to recover the boy safely and arrested his kidnappers, who were identified as Zubair of Tela Band and Waqar Hassan of Shakai Hindkyan.

Mr Furqan said that the suspects were members of a gang of professional kidnappers.

The police official said that ratio of crime, especially kidnapping for ransom and dacoities, was increasing with each day due to poverty, unemployment and presence of Afghans and influx of people from different tribal regions in the provincial capital.

However, the official said that police had started search and strike operations on regular basis in different areas to arrest the wanted criminals and suspected persons to overcome the crime and maintain law and order in the provincial metropolis.
