Maleeha pledges to protect country’s interests

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s designate Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr Maleeha Lodhi has vowed to secure the country’s interest at the world’s highest forum.

During a meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday, Dr Lodhi said she would utilise her best abilities to fulfil the requirement of her responsibilities and position.

According to presidential spokesman, Dr Lodhi pledged that she would also try to highlight Pakistan’s positive image before the international community.

President Mamnoon said the appointment of Dr Lodhi as Pakistan’s permanent representative to the UN had fulfilled the country’s need for a dynamic, sagacious and experienced envoy at the UN platform.

“Nation has great expectation from Dr Lodhi and I hope that she will meet them,” the president said.

Meanwhile, President Mamnoon Hussain on Friday appointed Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal as the caretaker governor of Punjab.

An official announcement said: “On a summary initiated by the cabinet division the president has approved the prime minister’s advice for nomination of speaker Punjab Assembly to perform the functions of the governor Punjab till the new governor is appointed.”

The office fell vacant on Thursday when Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar tendered his resignation from governorship.Published in Dawn January 31st, 2015
