Two extortionists jailed for 10 years

KARACHI: An antiterrorism court sentenced on Friday two extortionists to 10 years in prison.

Mohammad Wasiq and Shahbaz Mughal were found guilty of demanding protection money from a real estate dealer by putting him in fear of death in Gulshan-i-Maymar in March last year.

The judge of the ATC-VII, Akhlaq Hussain Larak, also ordered the convicts to pay a fine of Rs25,000 each.

The court also handed down seven-year imprisonment to both the convicts for carrying unlicensed weapons and imposed a fine of Rs10,000 each. In case of non-payment, the convicts would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

Suspect identified

Two witnesses rightly picked out on Friday a suspect during an identification parade before a judicial magistrate in a lawyer’s murder case.

The police had arrested Faisal Baloch a few days ago for allegedly killing Advocate Chaudhry Tanvir on Jan 9 near his house in Akhtar Colony.

The witnesses deposed that the suspect along with his accomplice killed the lawyer when he put up resistance.
