PESHAWAR: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) in its special meeting here on Thursday approved 25 projects with an estimated cost of Rs9 billion.

The PDWP met under the chairmanship of Dr Hammad Awais Agha, additional chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the meeting was also attended by the administrative secretaries and senior staff of departments.

The PDWP met thrice during last one week to clear the backlog of PC-Is pending for approval. The forum approved 145 projects with an estimated cost of Rs40 billion. The Planning and Development Department completed the challenging task of appraisal of such a big number of projects on a fast track. They also pushed the departments for rectification of the deficiencies in the projects’ documents and cost rationalisation, says a handout.

The projects approved on Thursday included improvement of local goats through crossbreeding with Saanen goat in Malakand region; upgradation of RHC Pattan to THQ Hospital in Kohistan; construction of judicial complex Mardan; acquisition of land for construction of judicial complexes in Manshera, Abbottabad, DI Khan and Swat districts; construction of police lines in Daggar, Charsadda, Timergara, Tank and one each police station in Bannu and Gomal Tank; purchase of land, design and feasibility study for construction of 31 police posts in Peshawar, police patrolling posts and enhancing security of jails in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; human resource development through skill development programme/training, expansion of purebred buffalo breeding farm in DI Khan and improvement of Azikheli buffalo breed; rehabilitation of veterinary institutions in rented buildings; conducting census and surveys for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; construction of joint judicial complex at Karak and Takht-e-Nasrati; construction of bar rooms in Takhtbhai and Mardan and establishment of change management unit in P&D Department; special initiatives i.e. incentives programme for school teachers, headmasters and principles showing best performance; construction of boundary walls in government schools under Tameer-i-Schools programme with the assistance of Japan government.
