Crime rate surges in Chitral during 2014

CHITRAL: The crime rate surged during 2014 in Chitral as 4,511 crime cases were registered with Chitral police against 3,563 during 2013.

According to information gathered from the district police offices, 12 cases of murder, 15 of attempted murder,38 of theft, 17 of abductions, 16 of burglary and 36 of injuries were registered during 2014. Seven motorcycle theft cases were also registered against none in 2013, while car theft and snatching cases remained zero as before.

Also there was no case concerning child lifting, abduction for ransom, bank robbery and militancy during the year under review. About 873 cases were registered under the Hudood Ordinance, while seven cases of zina, 17 of abduction and one case of assault on police were reported during 2014.

The recovery of narcotics also registered an increase as 309 kilogrammes of charas was seized during the year against that of 275 during the previous year.

The recovered arms and ammunition included eight rifles, 80 shotguns, 17 pistols, 1,884 rounds, five Kalashnikovs, two detonators, seven hand grenades, and 205kgs of explosive material.

BUTCHERS BOOKED: District director livestock Dr Tajul Akbar raided poultry and meat shops in different bazaars of Chitral city and booked 21 butchers and poultry sellers for selling substandard and stale meat here the other day.

Accompanied by the officials of local police and food department, he visited Atalique Bazaar, DC Road, Goldur Road, Krup Risht and Chew bazaar and inspected hygiene conditions at the meat and sweets shops.

Talking to mediapersons, he expressed his anguish over the unchecked sale of stale meat and preparation of confectionary items in unhygienic conditions. He said that in the recent meeting of zoonotic control committee, the members had also expressed their apprehensions over the sale of substandard meat. He termed the kitchens of bakers the dirtiest place of the city.
