Three hurt in clash on court premises

BAHAWALPUR: Three members of a family were injured in a clash over child custody here on Thursday on the premises of the district and sessions court.

Abdul Karim, Riaz and Belal were attacked with bricks by a group related to the mother of six-year-old girl Iqra whom the suspects namely Allah Bakhsh and others wanted to ‘kidnap’ from her injured father Riaz. Belal is the nephew and Abdul Karim is the grandfather of the girl.

Civil Lines police have registered a case against Allah Bakhsh and his accomplices.

No arrest was confirmed by the police.

ENCOUNTER: The Samasatta police claimed on Thursday to have killed two suspects in an encounter near forest area on Karachi Road.

According to police, Nadeem Meo was wanted in a number of cases. Police stopped him along with his accomplice Azhar alias Azhari at a picket on AP canal branch here. On seeing the police, the suspects moved towards the forest where the encounter took place and both were killed.

Police said none of the personnel suffered injuries. Police shifted the bodies to Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) for a postmortem examination.

ANTI-MEASLES DRIVE: About 0.3 million children aged between six months and 10 years have so far been administered anti-measles injections during four days of the drive across the district.

According to EDO (Health) Dr Shahid Khalique, a target of about one million children has been set during the 14-day campaign (by Feb 9).

He said the drive would be completed by 561 teams, including 442 for rural areas.

FLOUR BAGS: The city assistant commissioner with powers of consumers authority on Thursday directed the flour mills association president and the district food controller to get inserted date of manufacture, expiry, price and detail of ingredients on flour bags.

LAWYERS STRIKE: On the call of the Pakistan Bar Council, lawyers on Thursday observed a black day against the 21st Amendment.

The lawyers wore black armbands and boycotted court proceedings.
