IDPs promised dignified return

PESHAWAR: Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has said that return of internally displaced persons of Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency to their homes is a matter of few weeks and the process would be started next month.

He said that the government was committed to the early repatriation of IDPs and the socioeconomic uplift of the tribal region. He urged the tribal people and elders to play active role in the restoration of peace.

He said that the elders needed to shoulder their responsibilities for sustainable peace in the area. He said that he was trying to ensure early reopening of Bara Bazaar for restoration of economic activities in the agency.

A handout said that a delegation of tribal elders from Bara called on the governor here on Wednesday and apprised him of the problems being faced by people of Bara. They also discussed matters pertaining to the repatriation.

The governor assured the delegation that every possible step would be taken to ensure dignified repatriation of Bara IDPs to their homes.

He said measures would be taken to ensure the provision of best infrastructure, health centres, schools, colleges, hospitals, etc after the repatriation of IDPs to their homes.
