Shutdown in Matli as rumour hits town

BADIN: A strong rumour about kidnapping of the Matli sub-divisional officer of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Waseem Korai triggered protest demonstrations followed by a four-hour sit-in by people, who also pulled down the shutters in a spontaneous reaction on Monday.

A complete shutdown was witnessed soon after the rumour hit the city. People took to the streets and groups of protesters started converging on the main Badin stop on Badin-Hyderabad Road to hold a sit-in.

It was in progress when Mr Korai appeared at the Digri Press Club in Mirpurkhas district and denied having been kidnapped as the report aired by some TV channels had suggested.
