Six members of banned outfits arrested

CHAKWAL: Police have arrested six members of three different outlawed organisations while an annual conference which was scheduled to be held on January 25 by the banned Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ) in Talagang was also cancelled.

Among those arrested are Haji Mohammad Sharif a resident of Chak Malook village, Qari Amir Shehzad, a resident of Uthwal village, Hafiz Murid Hussain, a resident of Waray village and Sajid Mehmood, a resident of Umarabad locality of Chakwal city. They are associated with the banned Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan and its reincarnation ASWJ.

Mohammad Javed, a resident of Dharukna village, is associated with the proscribed Jaish-i-Mohammad and Ghulam Qasim, a resident of Dhoke Feroz, locality of Chakwal city, is associated with the banned Sipah-i-Mohammad Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the annual conference of ASWJ which was scheduled to be held on January 25 was also cancelled few days before its due date.

“Efforts to curb activities of proscribed outfits and to implement the law fully have been stepped up in the district,” District Police Officer Dr Moeen Masood said.

Meanwhile, four prayer leaders were also booked under the newly introduced Punjab Sound System Regulation Ordinance.
