LAHORE: The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) has started the process to prequalify consultants and contractors for executing a pilot project of constructing 19 overhead water reservoirs at various locations in the city.

According to officials, the project, in consultation with the Lahore Development Authority’s strategic policy unit, was prepared and moved by Wasa to the Punjab government some time ago. Later, the government approved it and released requisite funds through the planning and development department. They claimed the project would enable Wasa to improve uninterrupted water supply to the residents of Lahore.

“Under the project, we will construct 19 overhead water reservoirs that involve both civil and mechanical works. At present, we are in process to prequalify consultants and contractors to execute the project,” Wasa Deputy Managing Director Aftab Dhillon told Dawn on Sunday.

He said once the pilot project proved successful it would be replicated at a huge scale in the city district.

JAILED: A team of the city district government’s Data Ganj Bakhsh Town Municipal Administration on Sunday caught six vendors for overcharging customers at various liquefied petroleum gas outlets and tandoors and sent them to jail after the assistant commissioner held their trial on the spot. The team also removed several encroachments in various parts of the city.

TRANSPORTERS: Goods transporters on Sunday criticised the government for not solving the problems they had been facing since long at Ravi Road truck terminals.

According to a press release issued by the All Pakistan Truck and Troller Association, the transporters in a meeting were unanimous about launching protests. They were also of the view that they would avoid supporting the PML-N and its government in the future.

EXHIBITION: The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will hold an exhibition, Wekh Lahore Photo Contest and Exhibition, at Alhamra Arts Council on Monday (today), according to a spokesperson.

It is the second annual contest organised by the WCLA. Hundreds of photographers, who had sent entries related to the Walled City heritage buildings and its life to the authority, would exhibit their pictures, the spokesperson said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
